Civic Future and Britain Remade are partnering to host a Transport Unconference in Leeds.

Britain has a transport problem. Those of us who drive spend an average of 115 hours stuck in traffic each year. While only 40% of people living in one of our big cities can get to the city centre within 30 minutes, compared to two-thirds of people in the big cities of Europe. When we try to update the system, planning hold-ups result in the loss of momentum and political will, and cost overruns either stop projects dead or make them wildly overpriced – per-mile, HS2 is the world’s most expensive railway under construction.

We need new ideas.

Whether that’s wildcard innovations we should be laying the groundwork for, schemes for overcoming our planning problems and lowering the cost of laying tracks and tarmac, or a revival of proposals from the past – like a Tram for Leeds – this is an opportunity to present and discuss your proposals with leading experts in the field.

We’ve grown accustomed to our transport system being second rate. We need to start thinking about the transport of the future.

We have a small bursary to cover travel. If you require this please specify when you RSVP using the link above.
