WHAT WE DO

About the Programme

We host a range of events and activities to strengthen the skills and knowledge of those working in, or considering, public life. For example, we convene public debates on the defining political and philosophical issues of the day, and practical training for effective politics and government. 

We work with organisations and institutions already active in civil society, nationally and locally. Our goal is to educate and inform both talented young people in the early stages of their career, and older people who are keen to make a contribution to public life.

Economics for Government: Foundation
This will give participants a grounding in the UK economy, the basics of micro and macroeconomics, and the challenges and choices in promoting growth.

Applying Economics in Policymaking
This will build on participants’ existing knowledge, putting the UK economy in historical and international comparison, and debating the merits of supply or demand side policy tools.

Each 1-day course is in-person only, held at our Public Hall office in SW1. Led by a former Whitehall Chief Economist you will be guided through economic theory and policy, and discuss how UK Governments raise, and spend, money, tailored to your existing knowledge. Places are limited, to ensure quality. Both courses suit political candidates of any Party, civil servants, and those interested in public appointments or career-switches into government.
